GLENDON PROFESSOR EMERITA MARGARITA FELICIANO WAS AWARDED ONE OF ARGENTINA'S MOST PRESTIGIOUS HONOURS.
On Thursday, May 24, 2017, the Consul General of Argentina in Toronto, Señora María Amelia Lonardi de Duardo, announced the decoration of Professor Emerita Margarita Feliciano to the Rank of Officer of the Order of May. The announcement was made at a ceremony in the Legislative Building of Ontario at Queen's Park, on the occasion of the celebration of Argentina's National Day and of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the creation of the Consulate General of Argentina in Toronto.
The Order of May was created on December 17, 1957, with the purpose of bestowing recognition to foreign civilian or military citizens who distinguished themselves for their services and who deserved the gratitude of the Nation for their outstanding contributions. In a letter to Prof. Feliciano, the Consul General of Argentina states: "It is an honour for me to inform you that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina has asked me to bring to your attention that the President of Argentina, Sr. Mauricio Macri, in a Decree bearing his signature, has bestowed upon you the Decoration of the Order of May to the Rank of Officer. In my capacity as Consul General of Argentina in Toronto, I join the celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the existence of the Consular Office in Toronto to the decision taken by my Government to grant you such an important and well-deserved recognition for your outstanding contribution in disseminating our culture. I take this opportunity to express to you my sincerest congratulations". [endif]
In addition to her academic and administrative contributions to York University and to her work as editor, creative writer and literary translator, Margarita Feliciano has been working as a cultural promoter since 1974. Using the vehicle of translation, into and from French, English, Portuguese, Italian and Guarani, she endeavours to create a meaningful and appreciative contact leading to sharing literary, cultural and academic creations among people who live and work in the Americas.
Translating into different languages began with the publication of Indigo Magazine, (1989-1993) and it was followed by the creation of the Cultural Celebration of the Spanish Language, which gave rise to the Festival of Images and Words (1992-), to ANTARES Publishing House of Spanish Culture (2005-) and to SARGASI Publications (2013-). These initiatives have served as a basis for exploring the possibility of widening the realm of linguistic diffusion by translating works originally written in aboriginal languages - such as Quechua, Nahuatl and Ojibway-, thus bringing the beauty inherent in these languages to the appreciation of a world-wide readership.
The work of cultural diffusion on themes related to Argentina stands out with the publication of, Otras Latitudes: Voces argentinas alrededor del Paralelo 49 (2010). This work was translated into English and published under the title of Other Latitudes: Argentinian voices around the 49th Parallel (2013). At present, Margarita Feliciano is working on a book of academic and literary writings titled: Destellos de dos Naciones: Celebrando el Bicentenario de la Independencia de Argentina y el Sisquecentenario del Canadá, which will be translated into English under the title of, Glimpses of two Nations: Celebrating the Bicentennial of the Independence of Argentina and the Sesquicentennial of Canada. Feliciano's work has been commended on a number of occasions by the City of Toronto and the Province of Ontario. One of these commendations deals with her contributions as instruments created to "strengthen the social fabric of Canada through the Festival of Images and Words".

EL GOBIERNO DE LA REPÚBLICA ARGENTINA OTORGÓ A MARGARITA FELICIANO, PROFESORA EMÉRITA DE GLENDON COLLEGE, YORK UNIVERSITY, UNO DE LOS HONORES MÁS PRESTIGIOSOS DEL PAÍS.
El jueves 24 de mayo de 2017, la Cónsul General de la República Argentina en Toronto, Señora María Amelia Lonardi de Duardo, anunció la condecoración de Margarita Feliciano, Profesora Emérita de Glendon College, York University, al rango de Oficial de la Orden de Mayo. El anuncio se hizo en Queen's Park, sede de la Legislatura Provincial de Ontario, en ocasión de la celebración del Día Nacional de la República Argentina y del veinticinco aniversario de la fundación del Consulado General Argentino en Toronto.
La Orden de Mayo fue creada el 17 de diciembre de 1957 con el propósito de otorgar reconocimiento a los ciudadanos extranjeros -tanto civiles como militares- que se distinguieron por sus servicios y que han sido merecedores de la gratitud de la Nación por sus excelentes contribuciones. En una carta dirigida a Feliciano, la Cónsul General de Argentina dice: "Es un honor para mí informarle que nuestra Cancillería me ha encomendado notificarle que se encuentra a la firma del Sr. Presidente Mauricio Macri el Decreto mediante el cual se le otorga la Condecoración de la Orden de Mayo en Grado de Oficial. En mi carácter de Cónsul General de la República Argentina en Toronto, uno la celebración del 25 aniversario de la creación de esta Representación a la decisión de mi Gobierno de otorgarle tan importante y merecido reconocimiento a su extraordinaria trayectoria difundiendo nuestra cultura. Hago propicia esta oportunidad para expresarle mis más efusivas felicitaciones".
Además de sus contribuciones académicas y administrativas en la York University y a su labor de editora, de poeta y de traductora literaria, Margarita Feliciano se dedica a la promoción cultural desde 1974. Usando la traducción del francés, del inglés, del portugués, del italiano y del guaraní, la Prof. Feliciano se ha empeñado en crear un contacto fuerte y apreciativo que conduzca a que los creadores que viven y trabajan en las Américas conozcan y compartan entre sí sus creaciones literarias, culturales y académicas. La comunicación en diferentes idiomas se inició con la publicación de la Revista Índigo (1989-1992) y fue seguida por la creación de la Asociación Celebración Cultural del Idioma Español (CCIE), la cual dio origen al Festival de la Palabra y de la Imagen (1992-), a la Casa Editorial ANTARES Publishing House of Spanish Culture (2005-) y a SARGASI Publications (2013-). Todas esas iniciativas han servido como instrumentos promotores de la difusión cultural y han dado base a la posibilidad de ampliar el alcance lingüístico y cultural mediante la traducción de obras inicialmente escritas en lenguas aborígenes -tales como el quéchua, el náhuatl y el ojibway- y de este modo, llevar la belleza inherente en estas lenguas a la apreciación de los lectores del mundo entero.
La labor de difusión cultural sobre temas relacionados con la Argentina se destaca con la publicación de Otras Latitudes: Voces argentinas alrededor del Paralelo 49 ( 2010). Esta obra fue traducida al inglés y publicada bajo el título de Other Latitudes: Argentinian Voices around the 49th Parallel (2013). Actualmente, Margarita Feliciano está trabajando en un libro de temas académicos y literarios titulado Destellos de dos Naciones: Celebrando el Bicentenario de la Independencia de Argentina y el Sesquicentenario del Canadá, libro que será traducido al inglés y al francés.
Margarita Feliciano ha sido reconocida en varias ocasiones por su labor cultural, tanto por la Ciudad de Toronto como por la Provincia de Ontario. Uno de esos reconocimientos se refiere a sus contribuciones como promotora cultural como agente de servicio para "fortalecer el tejido social de Canadá mediante el Festival de la Palabra y de la Imagen".

Le jeudi 24 mai 2017, le Consul Général de l'Argentine à Toronto, Mme. María Amelia Lonardi de Duardo, a annoncé la décoration de la Professeure Émérite Margarita Feliciano au rang d'Officier de l'Ordre de Mai. L'annonce a été faite lors d'une cérémonie tenue dans le bâtiment provincial de Queen's Park, à l'occasion de la célébration de la Journée Nationale de l'Argentine et du vingt-cinquième anniversaire de la création du Consulat Général de l'Argentine à Toronto.
L'Ordre de Mai a été créé le 17 décembre 1957 dans le but de reconnaître les citoyens civils ou militaires étrangers qui se sont distingués par leurs services et qui ont mérité la reconnaissance de la Nation pour leurs contributions remarquables. Dans une lettre à Mme. Feliciano, le Consul Général de l'Argentine déclare: « C'est un honneur pour moi de vous informer que le Ministère des Affaires Étrangères de l'Argentine, m'a demandé de porter à votre attention que le Président de l'Argentine, M. Mauricio Macri, par Décret portant sa signature, vous a conféré la Décoration de l'Ordre de Mai au rang d'Officier. En ma qualité de Consul Général de l'Argentine à Toronto, je me joins à la célébration du vingt-cinquième anniversaire de l'existence du Bureau Consulaire à Toronto et à la décision de mon Gouvernement de vous accorder une reconnaissance aussi importante et bien méritée pour votre contribution exceptionnelle à la diffusion de notre culture. Je saisis cette occasion pour vous exprimer mes sincères félicitations ».
En plus de ses contributions académiques et administratives à l'Université York et de son travail d'éditrice, d'écrivain et de traductrice littéraire , Mme. Feliciano travaille comme promotrice culturelle depuis 1974. En utilisant le véhicule de la traduction du français, de l'anglais, du portugais, de l'italien et du guarani, Feliciano s'efforce d'établir des liens forts et costructifs conduisant au partage des réalisations littérares, artistiques et académiques des personnes vivant et travaillant dans les Amériques.
Le fait de traduire en différentes langues a commencé par la publication de la Revue Indigo (1989-1993) et a été suivie de la création de la Célébration Culturelle de la Langue Espagnole, qui a donné naissance au Festival des Mots et des Images (1992-), à la maison d'édition ANTARES Publishing House of Spanish Culture (2005-) et aux publications SARGASI (2013-). Margarita Feliciano travaille actuellement sur la publication d'un livre d'écrits académiques et littéraires intitulé Destellos de dos Naciones: Celebrando el Bicentenario de la Independencia de Argentina y el Sesquicentenario del Canadá, livre qui sera traduit en français sous le titre de Étincelles de deux Nations: Célébration du Bicentennarie de l'Indépendance de l'Argentine et du Sesquicentennaire du Canada.
Le travail de Margarita Feliciano comme promoteur culturel au Canada a été reconnu à plusieurs reprises par la Ville de Toronto et par la Province de l'Ontario. Une de ces reconnaissances se réfère a se contributions en tant que véhicules créés pour « renforcer le tissu social du Canada à travers le Festival des Mots et des Images ».
